Her Majesty Queen Mary of Denmark arrived in Nairobi on December Tuesday evening for a three‑day official visit aimed at reinforcing bilateral cooperation between Denmark and Kenya, with a special emphasis on environmental conservation, climate action, and sustainable development. She was welcomed at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by Kenya’s Prime Cabinet Secretary and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Musalia Mudavadi, alongside the Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife and the Nairobi Governor.
The Queen’s visit coincides with Kenya’s role as host of the ongoing United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA‑7), and her programme includes tours of key conservation and climate‑focused projects. Among the planned engagements are visits to endangered species protection initiatives on Kenya’s coast and waste‑management and circular economy projects in Nairobi that showcase efforts to transform environmental challenges into sustainable economic opportunities.
Kenyan officials see the visit as an opportunity to deepen collaboration on renewable energy, green financing, and climate‑smart urban development. Denmark is recognised globally for its leadership in sustainability and environmental innovation, and both countries are expected to explore joint initiatives that align with Kenya’s climate commitments and sustainable growth objectives.
The official state visit reinforces longstanding diplomatic ties and opens the door for expanded cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including climate diplomacy, wildlife conservation, and sustainable development.
