DAVIDO CREDITS BRIGHT CHIMEZIE AS INSPIRATION FOR HIT SONG, EARNING PRAISE FROM HIGHLIFE LEGEND

Legendary highlife artist Bright Chimezie has expressed deep appreciation after Afrobeats superstar Davido revealed that one of his classic songs inspired a recent hit. Speaking in an interview with Hip TV, Chimezie said he was unaware that Davido’s song With You—a collaboration with Omah Lay—was influenced by Because Of English until the artist personally informed him.
“I’m so delighted and honoured,” said Chimezie. “Davido’s humility impressed me the most. He called me and told me personally that my song inspired his. It means a lot that a young artist of his stature would acknowledge the pioneers.” Chimezie, who recently signed a publishing deal with Sony Music, added that he is still active in the music scene, although he and his contemporaries have taken a backseat to allow younger artists to shine.
The connection between Davido and Chimezie marks a cross-generational fusion, highlighting the enduring influence of highlife on contemporary Nigerian music.
