DELTA GOVERNOR APPROVES AUTOMATIC EMPLOYMENT FOR BEST GRADUATING STUDENT
Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has approved automatic employment for Okwa Favour Oghenemine, the best graduating student from the Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka. Oghenemine, who graduated with a near-perfect 4.95 CGPA in Mathematics from the Faculty of Science, was honored during the 17th convocation ceremony of the university.
In a show of support for academic excellence, Governor Oborevwori not only congratulated the 6,401 students who graduated in the 2023/2024 academic session but also reaffirmed the state’s commitment to recognizing outstanding achievements. The university’s convocation saw the award of 830 postgraduate degrees, including 154 PhDs and 438 master’s degrees.
The governor also directed the immediate initiation of proceedings to revoke the abandoned Senate building project at DELSU, which has remained incomplete for over two decades. Oborevwori’s directive aims to ensure that the project is re-awarded to a capable contractor for swift completion, signaling the government’s commitment to addressing infrastructural issues at the university.
In response, the pro-chancellor of DELSU, General Alexander Ogomudia, called on the state government to expedite the completion of all ongoing and abandoned projects within the university. The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Samuel Asagba, highlighted the institution’s success in achieving 100% accreditation for all its programs and its ranking as the 20th best university in Nigeria by the global SciVal Ranking tool.
Oghenemine, in her valedictorian speech, expressed her gratitude for the university’s scholarship programs, which helped many students, including herself, overcome financial barriers to complete their education.
