DEPUTY HOR SPEAKER SAYS TINUBU DESERVES A SECOND TERM
Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, has officially declared for President Tinubu’s second-term ambition, citing the President’s inclusion of the South East in key political and developmental structures as a game-changer.
Receiving members of the City Boy Movement, a pro-Tinubu youth organization, Kalu expressed admiration for the President’s equanimity in distributing federal opportunities despite receiving minimal votes from the region in the 2023 election.
According to Kalu, the most symbolic gesture of reconciliation was the signing of the South East Development Commission (SEDC) bill—an effort many believed would never be actualized since the end of the Biafran War over 50 years ago.
“This is a man we didn’t vote for in large numbers, yet he has done what even those we supported never did,” Kalu said. “The SEDC will begin to heal wounds that have festered for decades.”
The Deputy Speaker called for the Igbo to shift from political isolation to engagement, warning that continued fragmentation of regional support weakens the South East’s negotiating leverage in Nigeria’s power dynamics.
Mary Ikoku, South East leader of the City Boy Movement, commended Kalu’s legislative leadership and adopted him as the group’s zonal patron, pledging full collaboration with his Renewed Hope Partners to mobilize support across the region for 2027.
