Senator Jibrin Barau (Kano North), the Deputy President of the Senate, emerged as the highest sponsor of private member bills within two years, with 29 to his name. These include significant reforms in development planning, cybercrime legislation, and the proposed North West Development Commission.
According to the Senate Committee on Rules and Business, Barau’s legislative leadership combines national planning priorities with regional upliftment. His bills have focused on education, agriculture, and real estate regulation, ensuring a broad spectrum of impact.
Barau attributed the success of his legislative agenda to the Senate’s “collaborative synergy” with the Executive, asserting that partnership, not antagonism, is the pathway to national progress.
