Edo Assembly Commission summons Clerk over age falsification allegation

The Edo State House of Assembly Commission has summoned the Clerk of the House, Alhaji Audu Omogbai, over allegations of age falsification and irregular extension of service. The Commission’s chairman, Hon. Otasowie Efe, confirmed the development, noting that the summons followed a petition filed by concerned legislative staff and civil society organizations in the state.

According to sources within the Assembly complex, the petition alleged that the Clerk, who was due for retirement in 2023, manipulated his records to remain in service beyond the lawful age limit. The Assembly Commission has now set up a panel to investigate the allegations and verify his official documents, including his birth certificate, employment records, and promotions.

Efe stated that the Commission is committed to transparency and accountability, saying, “The era of impunity in the civil service is over. Anyone found guilty of falsifying records will face disciplinary measures in line with the civil service rules.”

The development has triggered reactions across the state legislature, with some members urging the Commission to act decisively to restore public confidence in the legislative institution. Meanwhile, Omogbai has denied any wrongdoing, insisting that his record is “clean and verifiable.” The probe is expected to conclude within two weeks.
