The Edo State House of Assembly has confirmed Hon. Chris Ewere Okaeben as a Commissioner in the state executive council 83 days after his initial rejection, bringing an end to the prolonged confirmation saga.
Okaeben’s confirmation follows earlier concerns raised by lawmakers and security agencies—which stalled his approval process as the nominee awaited clearance on issues referred to the Department of State Services (DSS). With those matters apparently resolved, the legislature moved to endorse his appointment, allowing him to join the state cabinet and contribute to Governor Okpebholo’s policy priorities.
Lawmakers’ reversal underscores the evolving interplay between the executive and legislative arms in Edo State, where nominee confirmations have at times been influenced by vetting protocols and political negotiations. Okaeben now joins other confirmed commissioners as part of the administration’s leadership team.
