In the run-up to the upcoming Local Government Area (LGA) elections, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State has announced that the party will present a consensus candidate for the Auchi area, signalling a strategic attempt at unity and internal cohesion.
At a press briefing, the party’s state leader stated that internal consultations and stakeholder engagements had led to the decision, which aims to avoid protracted primaries and internal divisions, thereby strengthening the party’s electoral posture ahead of the 2027 cycle. The move underscores the party’s emphasis on streamlined selection processes and candidate quality.
Stakeholders at the local level welcomed the decision as a step toward building political stability and consensus, rather than contestation that could fragment party strength. The chosen candidate is expected to undergo formal nomination and endorsement at the state party convention soon.
