The Federal Government has designated Edo State as the official South-South Regional Hub for Red Meat Processing and Distribution, following a comprehensive review of logistics capacity, accessibility, and existing agricultural infrastructure in the state.
The announcement was made by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, which commended Edo’s strategic location and commitment to agricultural development under Governor Monday Okpebholo.
The new facility will serve as a regional processing and supply centre, linking livestock producers from neighboring states and promoting hygienic meat processing and value chain development.
According to the Ministry, the project will create employment, enhance food safety, and expand export opportunities for livestock farmers and processors in the South-South region.
Governor Okpebholo described the selection as a significant endorsement of Edo’s agricultural potential and pledged his administration’s full support towards the success of the initiative.
