Benin City — The Edo State Government has formally denied claims that it holds a five per cent equity stake in Ossiomo Power, a power generation and distribution company, clarifying that the state is only one of its customers.
At a stakeholders meeting, Saturday Omozokpea Egbadon, Director-General of the Edo State Electrification Agency, said records confirm the state has no ownership interest in the plant. He emphasized that government facilities are supplied power by Ossiomo under customer status and that about 80 per cent of government buildings have since been moved onto dedicated lines under the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC).
The power plant, which produces about 95 megawatts, has been shut down since September 1 amid an ownership dispute between its Nigerian partners and its Chinese joint-venture partner, Jiangsu Communication Clean Energy Technology (CCETC). Many subscribers, including state government ministries, have expressed interest in returning to BEDC supply.
