EFCC TO LAUNCH CYBERCRIME REHABILITATION ACADEMY FOR CONVICTED FRAUDSTERS

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is set to launch a Cybercrime Response Academy to rehabilitate convicted Nigerian cybercriminals and repurpose their digital skills for productive ventures.
EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede revealed the plan at the National Cybersecurity Conference in Abuja, stating that the centre will initially accommodate 500 individuals, with expansion plans to house up to 2,500 participants. The academy will offer vocational training and monthly stipends to support reintegration into society.
In a major bust, the EFCC arrested 194 cybercrime suspects in December, including 182 foreign nationals who allegedly used stolen Nigerian identities. So far, 146 have been convicted, with plans underway for their deportation after serving their sentences.
Olukoyede emphasized the importance of international cooperation, noting recent agreements with the FBI and Cambodia for intelligence sharing. “We are building a model that not only punishes but rehabilitates,” he said.
