Emir Sanusi Warns About Against Reprisal Attacks over Killings of Northern Travelers

The 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has urged youths in Kano to refrain from launching reprisal attacks on innocent non-indigenes following the killing of 16 northern travelers in Edo State.
Delivering his sermon after leading the Eid-el-Fitr prayers at the Kofar Mata Eid ground, the former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor cautioned against retaliatory violence, warning that it would only escalate tensions and cause more harm.
“We received reports yesterday that some youths are planning to launch reprisal attacks on non-indigenes following the killings. We are advising them not to carry out such attacks,” Sanusi said.
He called on young people to maintain peace and allow the authorities to handle the situation, urging traditional rulers to remain vigilant in preventing unrest.
Sanusi also demanded justice for the victims of the Edo killings, calling on security agencies to ensure a thorough investigation and prosecution of those responsible.
The Emir reminded the Muslim community of the moral lessons learned during Ramadan, emphasizing the need to uphold them beyond the fasting period.
Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, his Deputy Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, former Deputy Governor Prof. Hafiz Abubakar, and other government officials attended the Eid prayers.
In a similar message, the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, also condemned the killings and urged authorities to act swiftly in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
