Enugu Begins Gratuity Payments to Retirees

The Enugu State Government has commenced the disbursement of gratuities to civil servants who retired from January 2025, in line with the directive of Governor Peter Mbah.

Confirming the development on Tuesday, the State Accountant General, Mr. Anthony Okenwa, stated that payments are being made to retirees who have undergone biometric verification—a measure introduced to eliminate ghost workers from the state’s payroll.

However, Okenwa revealed that gratuities owed between 2010 and 2024 have been temporarily paused pending verification of affected retirees. He assured that once the process is completed, the backlog will be cleared in instalments.

Governor Mbah had pledged during his 2023 campaign to resolve outstanding pensions and gratuities inherited from previous administrations, reaffirming his commitment to improving the welfare of retirees in the state.
