Ex-CDS Gen. Christopher Musa nominated for mayor of peace award

The International Association of World Peace Advocates (IAWPA) has nominated Nigeria’s immediate past Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa (rtd), for its prestigious “Mayor of Peace” Award in recognition of his service to national stability, peacekeeping operations, and post-retirement humanitarian initiatives.

The global body noted Musa’s long-standing contributions to peace enforcement missions in the Sahel, his leadership in strengthening civil-military relations, and his commitment to conflict resolution mechanisms during his tenure. The award ceremony, scheduled to hold later this year in Abuja, will feature global representatives of diplomatic missions, civil society, and peace-building institutions.

The recognition comes at a critical time when Nigeria’s security architecture continues to undergo reforms aimed at achieving sustainable peace. Musa’s nomination underscores international recognition of Nigeria’s military leadership and its evolving approach toward peace operations and humanitarian support in conflict-prone regions of Africa.
