The nation mourns the passing of retired General Mohammed Abdullahi, who served as Chief of Staff to Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Umaru Musa Yar’Adua. General Abdullahi died early Wednesday November 5th at the age of 86.
Born in 1939 in the Ilorin Emirate, he held key positions including National Security Adviser and Director General of the National Security Organisation prior to Nigeria’s return to civilian rule. The Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, described him as “a proud son of Ilorin and a patriot who advanced national unity and development.”
Arrangements are underway to bury him at the National Cemetery in Abuja. Political and military figures have begun issuing condolences to the family and reflecting on his decades of public service.
