The Federal Government has thrown its weight behind the Abuja City 10,000 Housing Project, a landmark initiative designed to reduce Nigeria’s urban housing deficit.
The project, to be executed in partnership with private developers, will provide affordable homes to low- and middle-income earners in the Federal Capital Territory. Officials say it will also create jobs, boost the local construction industry, and inject renewed confidence into Nigeria’s real estate sector.
Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, said the government’s support is anchored on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes mass housing delivery nationwide. He further emphasized that the initiative is aligned with sustainable urban development principles and will include modern infrastructure such as schools, clinics, and transport links.
Housing experts hailed the move but cautioned that execution and affordability remain key challenges. Analysts argue that similar projects in the past often faltered due to poor funding and political interference, stressing that this project must avoid those pitfalls to succeed.
