The Federal Government has given the contractor handling the Enugu-Onitsha dual carriageway until May 10, 2026, to complete the rehabilitation of the road.
Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi, issued the directive during a meeting in Abuja with the contractor and financiers under the Infrastructure Development and Refurbishment Investment (Tax Credit) Scheme. He stressed that the project must adhere strictly to contract terms, warning that cost variations would not be entertained.
Umahi also called on cement manufacturers to reduce the price of cement from ₦9,500 to ₦7,000, citing the recent drop in the exchange rate. He questioned why cement prices had remained high despite the dollar stabilizing at around ₦1,400, warning that if manufacturers fail to act within a week, he would escalate the matter to President Bola Tinubu.
Meanwhile, President Tinubu’s former spokesman in the South East, Dr. Josef Onoh, commended the administration for continuing inherited projects, emphasizing that past governments had failed due to project abandonment.
