FIRS rebrands as Nigeria Revenue Service, unveils new logo in tax reform push

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has officially transformed into the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) and unveiled a new logo and institutional identity as part of a sweeping overhaul of Nigeria’s revenue administration framework ahead of major tax reforms taking effect on 1 January 2026.

The rebranding follows the signing into law of the Nigeria Revenue Service Establishment Act 2025 by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in June, dissolving the previous FIRS structure and positioning the NRS as the central authority for federal tax collection. The unveiling ceremony, held in Abuja and led by NRS Executive Chairman Zacch Adedeji, introduced a modern logo meant to reflect a unified, efficient, and service-oriented revenue system aligned with global best practices.

Adedeji said the new identity represents not just a name change, but a strategic shift in Nigeria’s fiscal architecture, signalling strengthened institutional capacity and renewed commitment to transparency, taxpayer engagement and national development. Officials described the move as a critical milestone in boosting revenue mobilisation and supporting the government’s broader economic transformation agenda.

The transition to the NRS is occurring against the backdrop of Nigeria’s controversial new tax laws debated extensively by lawmakers, civil society and citizens with the government promoting the overhaul as essential for sustainable revenue generation and reduced dependence on oil receipts.
