Former Plateau Governor calls for Mutfwang’s Resignation

Former Governor of Plateau State, Jonah Jang, has called on the incumbent Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, to resign his position and contest a fresh election following his recent defection from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Speaking on Monday, January 12, 2026, Jang described the Governor’s move as a “betrayal of the people’s mandate.”

Jang, an influential PDP chieftain, argued that the votes that brought Mutfwang to power in 2023 belonged to the party and not the individual. He stated that it is “morally and democratically wrong” for a governor to carry a mandate won under one platform to another without returning to the polls. He challenged Mutfwang to prove his popularity by resigning and running under the APC banner to see if the people of Plateau still support his leadership. The Governor’s defection has sent shockwaves through the state, as he was previously seen as a core pillar of the PDP in the North-Central zone.
