Governor Monday Okpebholo has raised concerns that political critics and detractors are trying to divert his administration’s attention and hinder development progress in Edo State. Speaking at an inter-denominational prayer service in Irrua ahead of the new year, Okpebholo said detractors are attempting to set the state on a path of retrogression despite efforts to improve security and infrastructure.
Okpebholo reiterated that his government is implementing deliberate strategies to sustain growth and reduce crimes such as kidnapping and cultism, which he said have declined because of enhanced security collaboration and community engagement. He called on citizens to pray for continued progress, urging divine intervention against those he described as “enemies of the state” whose actions, he claims, seek to undermine governance and stall development momentum.
The governor also reiterated support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s federal reforms, highlighting national security and economic policies as essential to stability and prosperity, and appealed for prayers for the president and his administration to succeed in their mandates.
Okpebholo’s remarks reflect ongoing tensions with political opponents and underscore his emphasis on unity and faith as pillars for achieving development goals in Edo State.
