Governor Monday Okpebholo has decreed that all commissioners and board members must wear the “Asiwaju cap” — a cap bearing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s symbol — to attend State Executive Council (EXCO) meetings. Any member who fails to don the cap will be sent out or denied entry.
He issued the warning on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, during the swearing in of new commissioners and appointment of board members. Okpebholo framed the directive as an outward demonstration of loyalty to President Tinubu, whom he credited for supporting his emergence in office.
The governor made his stance clear: “Your nominations did not come as reward or patronage but as a call to serve the people of Edo State.” He warned that failure to show up to EXCO meetings with the cap would lead to exclusion, urging commissioners to take their roles seriously and uphold integrity in service delivery.
