Gov Okpebholo says government working hard to ensure safety of citizens

Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the safety and security of residents, emphasising that both the state and federal governments are actively pursuing strategies to protect lives and property. Governor Okpebholo spoke at an inter-denominational prayer service in Irrua where he highlighted ongoing efforts to improve security, reduce crime and build a safer environment for families, businesses and communities.

Okpebholo said the current security architecture developed in collaboration with relevant agencies and anchored on intelligence sharing, community engagement and proactive patrols has already seen notable reductions in kidnapping, cultism and other violent crimes across the state. He credited the partnership between Edo’s security network and federal structures for improved responsiveness to threats, and called on citizens to support security efforts through vigilance and cooperation.

The governor also urged continued prayers for the success of national reforms and security policies, particularly the federal government’s interventions under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, which he said are helping to bolster the overall safety landscape in Edo and nationwide. Okpebholo stressed that peace and security are essential foundations for economic growth and social well-being, and reiterated his administration’s resolve to maintain robust measures to protect all residents.

Analysts say the governor’s remarks reflect a broader emphasis by Edo leadership on tackling insecurity through both legislative action and strengthened enforcement, including laws targeting cultism and kidnapping, expanded security deployments and enhanced coordination with state and federal forces.
