In a strategic move to strengthen governance, set policy priorities, and improve service delivery, Governor Pastor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has officially flagged off the 2026 Ministerial Briefing exercise, an annual programme designed to review progress across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) and align their operations with the administration’s ARISE Agenda.
The two-week exercise began with an enlarged Executive Council meeting at the Government House, Uyo, where the Governor outlined the objectives of the briefings. According to him, the exercise provides Commissioners, agency heads, and managing directors the platform to render structured accounts of stewardship, consolidate achievements, identify operational gaps, and ensure that all initiatives are people-centered and results-oriented.
Governor Eno emphasised that the briefings are a critical mechanism for deepening accountability and enhancing coordination among MDAs. Presentations are expected to be concise, data-driven, and focused on measurable impact, showcasing how policies and programmes have improved service delivery to residents of Akwa Ibom State.
The first day of presentations, scheduled for January 12, 2026, included updates from the Commissioners for Works, Humanitarian Affairs, and Education, alongside the Chairman of the Ibom Tourism Board. The Governor noted that the sessions would be interactive, allowing for critical evaluation and feedback to ensure corrective measures are taken promptly.
Beyond the briefings, Governor Eno directed all Commissioners to mobilise residents for voter registration, highlighting the low current turnout as a concern. He also announced plans to execute over sixty priority projects this year, including ongoing road construction and targeted interventions to repair potholes in Uyo metropolis, leveraging funds already released for immediate action.
The Governor stressed that 2026 will be a year of action and measurable results, warning that excuses would no longer be tolerated and urging MDAs to adopt proactive strategies in delivering public services. Contractors handling government projects were specifically instructed to prioritise timely completion and high-quality execution.
Through this initiative, Governor Eno seeks to institutionalise accountability, performance management, and strategic oversight, ensuring that governance in Akwa Ibom State remains transparent, effective, and responsive to the needs of citizens.
