GOVERNOR OKPEBHOLO LAUNCHES MASSIVE ROADWORKS ACROSS EDO, TARGETS 170KM IN NEW PUSH

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has commenced a sweeping road infrastructure campaign aimed at restoring over 170 kilometers of major roads across the state. The projects, which span Edo North, Central, and South Senatorial Districts, mark one of the largest infrastructure undertakings of his administration since assuming office.Key sections already under construction include the Benin–Auchi Road near Obadan Junction, the Benin–Abuja axis through Ekpoma, and the long-neglected Temboga–Uteh corridor. In Benin City, the Aduwawa–Upper Mission junction is also undergoing reconstruction. Governor Okpebholo, while inspecting works along the Benin–Auchi axis, said the initiative is designed to “open up Edo’s economic arteries” and ensure connectivity between rural and urban communities. “Roads are not just infrastructure; they are the lifelines of our commerce, agriculture, and mobility. We are working to restore dignity and convenience to our people,” he stated. The road campaign falls under the governor’s SHINE Agenda, which emphasizes Security, Human Capital, Infrastructure, New Industries, and Economic Empowerment as core governance priorities in Local communities, traders, and transport unions have praised the accelerated pace of work, describing it as a relief after years of neglect and traffic hardship.
