GOVERNOR UBA SANI REVERSES EL-RUFAI-ERA LAND SALES IN KADUNA
Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has announced the revocation of several controversial land and housing sales carried out under the administration of former governor Nasir El-Rufai, declaring the move essential to safeguarding public educational infrastructure and promoting human capital development.
The properties affected by the reversal include parcels of land and buildings within three prominent state-owned institutions: Alhuda-huda College in Zaria, Queen Amina College in Kaduna, and Government Commercial College in Zaria. Governor Sani explained that the government is prioritizing the public interest, particularly the need to provide a conducive learning environment, free of encroachments.
A statement issued Tuesday April 21st by the Secretary to the State Government, AbdulKadir Mu’azu Meyere, confirmed that the revocation decision—first approved in 2024—has now been formally implemented. According to the statement, affected buyers will receive full refunds for payments made, as directed by the governor.
“In line with its commitment to human capital development and creating a conducive environment for teaching and learning, the Kaduna State Government has revoked all previous sales of institutional houses and land allocations,” the statement read. It emphasized that education remains a cornerstone of the state’s development agenda.
Governor Sani has made education a central focus since taking office, with significant investments in infrastructure upgrades across schools and a reduction in tuition fees in state-owned tertiary institutions. In August 2023, he slashed school fees in a bid to increase access to higher education and combat dropout rates.
Tuesday’s revocation, though likely to stir political debate, signals Sani’s willingness to part ways with some of his predecessor’s policies and reassert the government’s commitment to public education.
