In a demonstration of his commitment to youth empowerment and healthcare development, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has fulfilled his promise of financial support to 37 newly inducted medical doctors, disbursing a total of ₦20.5 million as part of his pledge during their professional induction into the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
The disbursement was carried out by the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ekem Emmanuel John, who presented the cheques to the beneficiaries on behalf of the Governor. The package included ₦1 million for the Governor’s Personal Assistant on Student Affairs, Dr. Wisdom Emmanuel, and ₦500,000 each for 36 other young doctors who completed their training and were formally inducted during a ceremony held on Friday, May 16, 2025, at the University of Uyo’s 1,000-seater auditorium.
Speaking at the cheque presentation, Governor Eno—through Commissioner John—commended the doctors for their perseverance, academic excellence, and commitment to public service. He noted that the gesture was not only in appreciation of their efforts, but also an investment in the state’s health future.
“These young doctors are ambassadors of hope and symbols of our healthcare renaissance,” the Governor said. “We expect them to embody the highest standards of compassion, humility, and integrity as they enter into service.”
The Governor further emphasized that the state was building a generation of professionals who would uphold ethical standards and bridge healthcare gaps in both urban and rural areas.
Responding on behalf of the recipients, Dr. Wisdom Emmanuel expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Governor, describing the financial support as a life-altering encouragement. “This generous gesture has rekindled our determination to serve with greater zeal and passion. It is a strong reminder that excellence is recognized and rewarded in Akwa Ibom State,” he said.
The initiative is widely seen as another milestone under the ARISE Agenda, with observers applauding the Governor’s proactive investment in human capital and the health sector.
