Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has appealed to the Federal Government for deployment of soldiers to border communities in the state, citing persistent attacks, banditry, and cross-border incursions.
Speaking at a security roundtable, Zulum indicated that some border areas remain highly vulnerable and inadequately policed, facilitating weapon smuggling and safe havens for criminals. He urged defense leadership to strengthen presence at key frontier points to deter external destabilizing elements.
The governor also canvassed for better infrastructure in those regions—road access, medical posts, communications network—to allow security forces quicker response times. Local chiefs and community leaders who attended the meeting echoed the plea, saying that absence of security has hurt farming activities and trade.
