HERBS SELLER OFFERS ALTERNATIVE TO MEDICINE FOR LOW-SCORING JAMB CANDIDATES
As criticism mounts over the high failure rate in the 2025 UTME examinations, a Nigerian herbalist has emerged with a unique alternative for disappointed candidates. In a video posted to TikTok, she urged those who had dreamed of becoming doctors or pharmacists but were thwarted by low JAMB scores to consider studying herbal medicine through her training program. She declared that her course was open for admission and suitable for anyone who had a passion for healing, regardless of academic setbacks.
“Admission is ongoing for those who failed JAMB. If you can’t study medicine, you can study herbs,” she said confidently. She went on to share her personal experience of scoring only 75 in her own UTME exam years ago—a score that effectively shut the door on conventional medical training. Rather than give up, she chose to pursue a path in traditional medicine, which she now considers both fulfilling and successful. Her video has sparked mixed reactions, with some applauding her entrepreneurial initiative and inclusive spirit, while others expressed concern over the professional ethics and scientific rigor of such herbal training. Nonetheless, the video has resonated with many young Nigerians seeking purpose amid academic disappointment.
