The House of Representatives Committee on National Security and Intelligence has received key submissions from security agencies on the proposed National Intelligence Trust Fund.
During a public hearing at the National Assembly, representatives from the Nigerian Armed Forces, Police, Customs, Immigration, and the Office of the National Security Adviser presented their positions on the bill, which seeks to create a dedicated fund to support intelligence operations beyond standard budgetary allocations.
Dr. Wole Joshua Osatimehin, Commander General of the Nigerian Forest Security Service (NFSS), strongly endorsed the initiative, describing it as a much-needed step to strengthen national security.
“This fund will provide rapid-response financing for security emergencies, improve training, healthcare, housing, and enhance intelligence capabilities,” Osatimehin stated.
Deputy Commander General of Intelligence for the NFSS, Ambassador John Metchie, also praised the initiative, calling it a testament to President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to tackling insecurity.
The bill, if passed, is expected to bolster security efforts across Nigeria, ensuring adequate funding for intelligence gathering and counter-terrorism operations.
