IPOB DISTANCES ITSELF FROM SIMON EKPA, DENOUNCES LINK TO KANU’S LEADERSHIP

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has issued a strong statement disowning Simon Ekpa, the Finland-based separatist agitator, and distancing him from its detained leader, Nnamdi Kanu. The clarification, made through IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary Emma Powerful, comes amid growing confusion over Ekpa’s connection to IPOB’s command structure.
IPOB stressed that Ekpa had long renounced any official association with the group and that his recent actions and pronouncements should not be construed as representative of the organisation. IPOB warned both Nigerians and the international community not to fall for what it described as misleading narratives linking Ekpa to its cause.
The group reaffirmed its commitment to lawful self-determination and said any attempt to conflate Ekpa’s activities with IPOB’s leadership amounts to a deliberate misrepresentation. It called on media outlets and security agencies to take note of the distinction and treat Ekpa’s utterances as those of a private individual, not the organization.
