The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Federal Government to implement the new national minimum wage and other benefits for judicial workers, warning of an indefinite strike if their demands are not met.
The ultimatum, announced in a communiqué after an emergency meeting at JUSUN’s Abuja secretariat, takes effect from Thursday, February 13, 2025, and expires on February 19, 2025. If the government fails to comply, JUSUN has vowed to commence a nationwide strike on February 20, 2025.
The union insists on the full implementation of the ₦77,000 minimum wage and other entitlements, noting that other public sector employees have already begun receiving the revised salaries. JUSUN had previously issued a 21-day notice, which expired without government action.
“Following extensive deliberations, it was resolved that an additional seven-day notice is hereby given. Failure to comply within the stipulated timeframe means industrial harmony cannot be guaranteed. Consequently, an indefinite strike will begin on Thursday, February 20, 2025,” the communiqué stated.
JUSUN urged the Federal Government to act swiftly to prevent a complete shutdown of judicial activities across the country.
