KANU’S LAWYER DENIES BEING BLOCKED BY DSS, FAULTS TEAM MEMBER’S CLAIM

Former Attorney General of the Federation and lead defence counsel in the terrorism trial of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN), has publicly debunked reports that he was denied access to his client by the Department of State Services (DSS). Speaking at a resumed court hearing on Wednesday, Agabi clarified that he was treated respectfully by DSS personnel and blamed a communication lapse within his team for the false claim.
Justice James Omotosho had raised the issue in court, referencing an online statement by Alloy Ejimakor, another member of the defence team, who alleged the DSS blocked their access. Agabi refuted this, saying he had been delayed briefly because the DSS had not received prior notice of his visit, but he was not denied entry.
“I got angry not because I was denied entry, but because Ejimakor gave me the wrong time. That is what caused the confusion,” he explained. The clarification aims to temper growing tensions surrounding Kanu’s prolonged detention, which continues to draw national and international attention.
