KATSINA GOVERNOR BACKS NATIONAL TAX REFORMS, VOWS DIGITAL COLLABORATION WITH FIRS

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, recently emphasized his administration’s commitment to national tax reforms during a key visit to the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) headquarters in Abuja. The meeting, held with FIRS Executive Chairman Dr. Zacch Adedeji, underscored a shared vision for stronger cooperation between state and federal levels to boost revenue mobilization.
In his remarks, Governor Radda described FIRS as “the engine room of Nigeria’s economic growth” and highlighted plans to deploy local strategies—such as digital tax platforms and grassroots tax education—to complement federal reforms. “Taxation should be viewed as a tool for development, not punishment,” he asserted, pledging to deepen voluntary compliance and modernise internal processes.
Dr. Adedeji welcomed Radda’s forward-thinking approach, stating that involving sub-national governments is essential to building a cohesive revenue system. “We will provide technical support to ensure these reforms flourish beyond Abuja,” he assured.
The meeting also covered digital innovation, enforcement mechanisms, and shared data management platforms, signaling a significant shift toward coordinated fiscal governance and improving taxpayer trust across Nigeria.
