Katsina State’s House of Assembly is stepping into the national spotlight with a powerful showing at the upcoming Papyrus Magazine State Houses of Assembly Awards (PAMSHAA) 2025, as several of its members have been named among the distinguished honourees. The 3rd edition of the awards is slated for August 30, 2025, at the Abuja Continental Hotel (formerly Sheraton).
Leading the Katsina delegation of awardees is Speaker, Rt. Hon. Nasir Yahaya Daura, who has not only won the hearts of parliamentary staff in the state but has also earned North-West regional recognition. He emerges as “The Masses’ Most Loved House Member” through a PASAN vote, while also clinching “Best Performing Speaker with Speaker-Members Relationship in the North-West”—a testament to his bridge-building leadership style.
On the constituency front, Hon. Tasiu Musa Maigari (Zango) has carved a place for himself as “Best Performing Member in Constituency Projects/Outreach”, celebrated for his people-first approach that translates promises into real, grassroots impact.
Equally standing tall is Hon. Abdul Jalal Sama’ila (Dutsi), applauded for effective representation, and Hon. Engr. Sama’ila Muazu Bawa (Faskari), who walks away with the laurel of “Best Performing Member with the Highest Motions”—marking his name in the records of legislative productivity.
The spotlight also falls on Hon. Abdulrahman Ahmad (Bakori), recognized for sponsoring motions of lasting influence, while Hon. Aliyu Abubakar Albaba (Katsina) makes history as a double awardee, celebrated for his committee stewardship and his contributions to shaping policy through private member bills.
Adding vigour to the lineup, Hon. Abubakar Dabai Shamsudeen (Danja) takes centre stage as the “Most Vocal Member on the Floor of the House”. The House Standing Committee on Judiciary, Justice and Human Rights rounds off the honours, praised as the “Most Effective/Productive Committee” for safeguarding justice and legislative integrity in the state.
For the organizers, Katsina’s impressive roll call underscores not just individual brilliance, but also a collective stride towards people-centred governance. Notably, while Speaker Daura was assessed beyond Katsina on a zonal scale, the members were measured strictly within intra-House categories, ensuring balance in recognition.
As the countdown ticks towards August 30, Katsina lawmakers stand poised to take their place among the best in Nigeria’s state legislative history—proof that the voice of the people and the performance of their representatives can indeed echo on the national stage.
