Kebbi Releases #30 Million to Tackle Suspected Meningitis Outbreak

Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris has approved ₦30 million for urgent medical intervention following a suspected outbreak of cerebrospinal meningitis in Gwandu, Jega, Aliero, and Argungu local government areas.

At least 26 deaths have been reported, with 248 suspected cases recorded. Health Commissioner Musa Isma’ila confirmed that symptoms observed include fever, severe headache, neck stiffness, vomiting, and diarrhea, though laboratory tests are still ongoing.

The state is working with the World Health Organization (WHO), Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), and UNICEF to strengthen response efforts, while awareness campaigns have been launched to educate residents on preventive measures.

Governor Idris urged citizens to seek medical attention at the first sign of symptoms as efforts intensify to contain the outbreak.
