Kogi State house of assembly passes ₦820.4bn 2026 budget, focusing on development priorities

The Kogi State House of Assembly has approved and passed the ₦820.4 billion 2026 Budget into law, setting fiscal priorities for accelerated development across the state. The budget tagged “Budget of Renewal and Inclusive Growth” reflects projected revenues and expenditure plans aimed at strengthening infrastructure, social services and economic opportunities for residents.

Key allocations within the new budget include increased funding for road construction and rehabilitation, healthcare delivery, education upgrades, and agricultural support programmes. Lawmakers also emphasised the importance of fiscal discipline and transparency in executing the budget, while urging the executive arm of government to engage in regular monitoring and reporting to ensure tangible results for Kogites

Speaker of the Assembly Hon. Matthew Kolawole commended his colleagues for working collaboratively with the state executive to finalise and pass the financial plan ahead of the 2026 fiscal year. He said the budget reflects broad consultations and thoughtful alignment with community needs, saying it positions Kogi State to further attract investment and boost economic growth.

Governor Usman Ododo is expected to sign the appropriation into law soon, after which implementation activities will begin in earnest to kick-start priority projects across local government areas.
