The Kwara State Government has unveiled what it claims is the tallest flagpole in West Africa—a towering 70-meter monument in Ilorin—as a beacon of pride, unity, and economic transformation. In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Works, Abdulquawiy Olododo, the government said the flagpole is more than a landmark: it is a cultural and economic statement that positions Kwara as a hub of innovation, tourism, and heritage.
According to Olododo, the flagpole symbolizes a departure from Kwara’s old identity as a “civil service state” to one aspiring to be a center for technology, hospitality, trade, and agribusiness. The flagpole, bearing the Nigerian flag, serves not only as a visual emblem of national unity but also as a metaphor for Kwara’s ambitions in the modern Nigerian federation.
