LABOUR PARTY LAWMAKERS ACCUSE ABURE OF SABOTAGE AND SELF-DESTRUCTION
Three Labour Party members in the House of Representatives have openly denounced factional chairman Julius Abure, accusing him of sowing chaos within the party and attempting to undermine its electoral momentum. The lawmakers—Afam Ogene, Seyi Sowunmi, and Amobi Ogah—issued a fiery statement in response to Abure’s announcement suspending prominent party figures, including Abia State Governor Alex Otti and Senator Ireti Kingibe.
The lawmakers said Abure has contributed nothing tangible to the party’s growth since the 2023 elections, claiming that his leadership has only led the party into defeats in states like Kogi, Bayelsa, Ondo, and Edo. They described his suspension orders as “fabricated” and politically motivated, pointing out that previous attempts to remove Hon. Ogene as caucus leader also failed.
“Abure has cast himself as the undertaker of the Labour Party’s soul,” they said. “But in doing so, he’s preparing the grave for his own political legacy.” Their statement underscores the deepening divisions within the Labour Party ahead of future elections and raises questions about its long-term viability as a national force.
