LEGISLATURE IN EDO DEMANDS URGENT ACTION AGAINST KIDNAPPINGS AND VIOLENCE

The Edo State House of Assembly has passed a resolution calling for stronger government and security sector interventions to end the rising wave of kidnappings and killings in many parts of the state.

The motion of urgent public importance was moved by Hon. Kingsley Ugabi, representing Etsako East Constituency, who highlighted the plight of farmers and residents in his area suffering incessant abductions and armed robberies.

During plenary, lawmakers noted that the situation has escalated recently, affecting communal life, agriculture, transportation and livelihoods. They urged the state government to enhance patrols, intelligence gathering, and deployment of security personnel in vulnerable zones.

The resolution was adopted unanimously. Legislators asked relevant security agencies to respond with urgency and for government to consider policies to protect farming communities and rural inhabitants who are disproportionately affected.
