London Protesters Rally for Sudan as War Escalates in Darfur

Hundreds of protesters gathered in central London on Wednesday October 29th demanding urgent international action to end the ongoing conflict in Sudan, which has left thousands dead and displaced millions. The rally took place outside the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office and drew members of the Sudanese diaspora, human rights campaigners, and students.

Participants carried Sudanese flags and placards calling for sanctions against armed groups responsible for atrocities in Darfur and Khartoum. Chants of “Stop the killing” and “Save Sudan’s children” echoed through Whitehall as speakers took turns condemning what they described as a humanitarian catastrophe.

The demonstration came days after reports of mass killings in El-Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, where hundreds of civilians were reportedly killed during clashes between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Organisers said the protest was intended to highlight global silence and push Western governments to increase pressure on warring parties to agree to a ceasefire. Several humanitarian organisations also used the event to raise awareness about the lack of food, water, and medical supplies reaching trapped populations in conflict zones.

Protests in solidarity with Sudanese civilians were also reported in Paris, Toronto, and Berlin. In London, police maintained a heavy presence, though the rally remained largely peaceful.

Demonstrators later marched toward Trafalgar Square, where candles were lit in memory of victims of the violence. Organisers pledged to continue weekly demonstrations until sustained international intervention is achieved.
