The Nigerian Army has carried out a sweeping redeployment exercise involving 67 generals in what military insiders describe as one of the most extensive reshuffles in recent years.
According to a signal issued from the Army Headquarters on Thursday October 30th, the redeployment affects officers from the rank of Brigadier-General to Major-General and covers both command and administrative positions across the country’s operational theatres.
Under the new postings, Major General O.A. Akinjobi has been appointed Commander of the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), while Major General E. Akerejola assumes office as the new Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna. Other changes include new appointments within the Army’s logistics, operations and engineering corps.
Military sources say the shake-up, approved by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, is part of efforts to “enhance operational efficiency, rejuvenate command structures and inject new leadership energy into ongoing operations.”
The redeployment comes at a critical time, as the military intensifies counter-insurgency campaigns in the North-East, anti-banditry operations in the North-West, and security stabilization efforts across the South-East and Niger Delta regions.
Observers say the shake-up also reflects the Army’s internal assessment of leadership performance, rotational command policy, and the broader strategy to professionalise the force under the Tinubu administration’s national security blueprint.
