MSSN Sounds Alarm over Proposed Tax Reform

The Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN) has urged the National Assembly to engage in wider consultations before passing the proposed tax reform bill.

In a statement marking the beginning of Ramadan, MSSN President Mustapha Tajudeen Olumide warned that new tax burdens could worsen economic hardship for students, small businesses, and young entrepreneurs.

“While we recognize the need for revenue generation, tax policies must be fair and considerate of current economic realities,” Olumide stated.

He commended President Bola Tinubu’s administration for implementing the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), describing it as a crucial step toward ensuring accessible education. However, he called for transparency and efficiency in the program’s implementation to prevent unnecessary bureaucratic obstacles.

MSSN also praised Sultan of Sokoto Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar for fostering unity among Nigerian Muslims, particularly during Ramadan, and urged all Muslims to embrace patience, generosity, and compassion in the spirit of the holy month.
