Multichoice Nigeria Appoints New CEO Following John Ugbe’s Retirement

MultiChoice Nigeria has named Kemi Omotosho as its new Chief Executive Officer, succeeding John Ugbe, who retired after nearly 15 years at the helm of the pay-TV and entertainment company. The leadership transition, effective January 2026, was announced by the company in a statement outlining the orderly change in management as part of its long-term strategic planning.

Omotosho brings over two decades of leadership experience in media, telecommunications and digital services across Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa, having held senior roles within the MultiChoice Group, including Executive Head of Customer Value Management in Nigeria and Group Executive Head for the Rest of Africa. Her most recent role was Regional Director for Southern Africa, where she had full operational responsibility across seven countries.

In her acceptance remarks, Omotosho described the appointment as “a privilege”, affirming her commitment to deepening MultiChoice’s engagement with Nigerian consumers and strengthening its contributions to the creative economy. She highlighted Nigeria’s importance as a strategic and dynamic market, particularly for storytelling, content development and digital innovation.

Ugbe’s retirement marks the end of a significant chapter for the company, during which he guided MultiChoice through major industry shifts and market evolution, including the expansion of original content, digital transformation and subscriber growth. Omotosho’s leadership is expected to build on these foundations, driving sustainable value and competitive innovation in Nigeria’s rapidly evolving media landscape.
