MUTFWANG DEPLOYS 150 AGRO-RANGERS TO SAFEGUARD PLATEAU FARMLANDS

In a strategic push to ensure food security and rural safety, Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has commissioned 150 agro-rangers to protect farming communities across the state. The newly deployed unit, trained under the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), graduated from the NSCDC Command and Staff College in Jos East Local Government Area.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Governor Mutfwang described the initiative as a vital step toward defending Nigeria’s agricultural backbone. “Farmers must be able to go to and return from their fields safely. Only then can we guarantee food security and sovereignty,” he said.
He applauded President Tinubu and national security agencies for supporting the agro-ranger initiative, noting its alignment with Plateau’s broader rural development agenda. Mutfwang pointed to the peaceful relocation of thousands of cattle from Bokkos LGA as an example of successful fieldwork by the agro-rangers.
NSCDC Commandant General Ahmed Abubakar Audi said this was the second deployment of agro-rangers in the state and pledged to expand the program nationwide. “The agro-rangers are specially trained to protect farming communities, and we are committed to scaling their impact,” he said.
The initiative is viewed as a timely response to the rising tensions between herders and farmers, as well as an economic safeguard against crop disruption caused by insecurity.
