A faction within the Nasarawa State chapter of the PDP has rejected what they describe as an imposed consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship ticket—accusing the State Working Committee (SWC) of subverting democratic primaries.
At a spirited press briefing in Lafia, the Concerned Stakeholders group, led by Jibrin Ibrahim, called out former state party chairman Francis Orogu, accusing him of clandestinely endorsing former candidate David Ombugadu in a meeting at Orogu’s residence. “This so-called consensus is false and undemocratic,” Ibrahim said, arguing it fails to reflect the will of party members.
They urged the SWC to nullify the sham adoption, sanction those involved, and uphold the party’s constitutional processes. When reached for comment, Orogu defended the move, asserting it followed due process.
This internal rift threatens to fracture PDP’s unity in Nasarawa ahead of 2027, and highlights the growing pressure on opposition parties to conduct transparent and inclusive primaries.
