NEW BOKO HARAM LEADER ISSUES DEATH THREATS NIGERIAN MILITARY CHIEF
A man claiming to be the new leader of Boko Haram—reviving the alias of late commander Abubakar Shekau—has released a threatening video warning Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, clerics, security personnel, and civilians who support the government’s anti-terrorism operations.
In a chilling message translated by PRNigeria, the insurgent warned Musa to abandon his mission or suffer defeat like past military chiefs. “There will be no peace until democracy is dismantled,” he said, vowing to target anyone—including Muslims—who serves in the armed forces.
He also lashed out at Muslim clerics critical of Boko Haram’s ideology and civilians aiding military operations, calling them legitimate targets. “Supporting democracy makes you an unbeliever,” he said.
Security analysts interpret the video as psychological warfare designed to destabilize morale and foster mistrust among civilians and military ranks. A source in counterterrorism described it as “classic Boko Haram propaganda.” The military has not yet issued an official response, but General Musa earlier reaffirmed that insurgents would “either surrender or be neutralized.”
