The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has reaffirmed its full support for Super Eagles head coach Éric Chelle ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, stressing that the federation remains committed to his two-year managerial project despite Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
NFF President Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau emphasized that Chelle was appointed on a fixed-term contract and that the federation intends to provide the stability necessary for him to build a competitive and united national team. He urged Nigerians to evaluate the team based on its performances at AFCON rather than past setbacks, describing the tournament as an opportunity for redemption and growth.
Gusau acknowledged the disappointment and frustration among fans following the World Cup qualification failure but warned against constant coaching changes, citing instability as a recurring issue in Nigerian football. He praised Chelle for his professionalism, tactical development, and leadership since taking charge, highlighting the coach’s commitment to building a structured and resilient team.
The NFF president called for unity and support from fans and stakeholders as the team prepares to kick off AFCON on 21 December 2025, urging collective encouragement to ensure the Super Eagles can focus fully on achieving positive results for the nation.
