Nigeria’s Paravolley Federation is gearing up for a landmark moment in its history as the country prepares to host para athletes from across West Africa for the inaugural West African Para Games. Federation is entering the final stage of its preparation, focusing on both competitive readiness and organisational support.
The Games, slated for November 26 to December 4, 2025, will be held in Abeokuta, Ogun State, and represent a significant regional effort to boost inclusion in sports for persons living with disabilities. Reports are that major logistical and operational components including transportation, accommodation, and venue validation are in advanced stages thanks to coordinated work by the Local Organising Committee (LOC) and the National Sports Commission (NSC).
For Nigeria’s Paravolley Federation, the upcoming Games provide more than just a competitive platform: they are a stepping stone toward greater visibility in para sports and a chance to strengthen its national team. According to older reports, the federation has been building for continental and global competition, including the African Games and World Paravolley World Cup.
President of the Paralympic Committee of Nigeria (PCN), Sunday Odebode, has described the Games as a “defining moment” for para sports in the sub-region. He expressed confidence in the capacity of both Nigerian organisers and athletes to deliver a high-quality, well-executed tournament, and indicated that the Games will help deepen regional cooperation among para-athletes.
The African Paralympic Committee (AfPC) has formally commended Nigeria’s efforts. According to a statement from the committee, it sees the Games as a bold step in regional inclusion and praised the selection of Abeokuta as host city.
As Nigeria leads the organisation, all eyes will be on how the Paravolley Federation and its partners convert their preparatory efforts into performance on the field. The success of this inaugural Games could set the tone for the future of para sports in West Africa, opening pathways for further investment, development, and competitive integration in the region.
