Benin City — The caretaker committee of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Edo State has made a public appeal to aggrieved members to lay aside grievances, embrace genuine reconciliation, and uphold comradeship in order to reposition the union for stronger labour advocacy.
The call comes amid leadership tussles and factional disputes within the labour movement in Edo, with multiple affiliate unions (including ASUU, SSANU, JUSUN, NUPENG, NUEE, NANNM, NUBIFIE, and NUBBTE) reportedly affected.
Prof. Monday Igbafen, Chairman of the caretaker committee, appealed for calm and cooperation, noting that the union has suffered from divisions that hinder its effectiveness. He emphasized the importance of working together to protect members’ interests, especially in negotiations with government, wage matters, and workers’ rights.
While no firm resolution has yet been announced, union members and party watchers see this appeal as a critical first step toward restoring unity and strength in the Edo labour movement.
