The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has imposed a fine of N9 million on Katsina United following violent conduct by its supporters during a recent league encounter with Barau FC.
The league body found the club guilty of breaching multiple disciplinary regulations, including inadequate crowd control and failure to protect players and officials. The sanctions also include a directive for the club to ensure proper security measures in future home matches.
Reports indicate that the disturbances began after the final whistle, when aggrieved supporters stormed the pitch, leading to physical confrontations with visiting players. The league management described the incident as unacceptable, warning that repeat infractions could attract stiffer penalties, including points deduction or suspension of home games.
The ruling underscores the NPFL’s renewed drive to enforce discipline and restore professionalism across all league fixtures.
